About 'The Defiant'

A not very successful fighter but one that proved its worth as an an early Electronic Warfare aircraft, the predecessor to the Lancasters, Argosies, Comets, Nimrods and Sentinels that followed!

No 1482 (B) Flight.

Based at Binbrook from Nov 41 to Mar 44, No 1481 (B) Flt was equipped with a number of ac types whilst at RAF Binbrook: Lysander, Whitley, Wellington, Martinet and Tiger Moth, as well as its Boulton Paul Defiant.

Operations from Binbrook.

A series of bombing and gunnery flights provided practice in bomb-aiming and air-to-air firing, this last by means of drogues flown behind Defiant target-tugs. No. 1481 B. and G. Flight,stationed at Binbrook, had a number of Wellingtons, in addition to its Defiants.
