THE BROOKENBY COMMUNITY CENTRE
I was going to reproduce Tony Price's article about the past history of the BCCMC and Community Centre here, but as progress is already being made, I felt that time had overtaken all comments regarding the past. We must now all look to the future of the Centre and how we as a village would like to manage and handle this village asset. Should the Parish Council vote to take over trusteeship, the Centre will be under new management and would be looking for ideas and suggestions how you see the future of the Centre.
Update - 27 October
Joint meetings of the Parish Council and the BCCMC over the past couple of months are beginning to show results. At the last meeting, on 27 October, the Parish Council members in attendance were shown the current financial status of the BCCMC to ensure that councillors were aware of the task in hand. In essence, it appears that once all debts have been collected, thee should be a small amount in credit - but only enough to cover regular commitments. The Chairman of the BCCMC also read out a statement from the Charities Commission which, in a nutshell, explains the methods by which the Parish Council may become the 'Sole Trustee' of the Community Centre and the Charity. Progress has been slow, but the end is in sight - hopefully.
The Chairman of the BCCMC will be sending letters to all current members of the BCCMC to publicise an Extraordinary General Meeting to be held on 24 November to fulfil the legal requirements of the Charity Commission and BCCMC Constitutional with regard to handing over trusteeship of the Charity to the Parish Council. If you are a member and have paid your 50p subscription for 2011, then you will be able to make your views known - for or against the Parish Council becoming sole trustee.
The Parish Council called an Extraordinary General Meeting on Thursday 3 November in the Council meeting room at which it resolved to take over trusteeship of the charity should the BCCMC membership agree at its meetuing on 24 November.
In the meantime, both the Tudor Room and the Village Hall are available for rental; for private functions. Please use them...
Users' news:
The Limelight Theatre Group
The Limelight Theatre Group presented Mr Chris Hare for only one night, 18 October, to a very disappointing audience. Let's hope the group has a better turn out for its next production - an updated seasonal pantomime. (Oh yes it is! Oh no it isn't!)
The Group will be producing this updated pantominme, 'Little Red Riding Hood' on 16,17,18 December in the Brookenby Theatre. Keep an eye out for fliers advertising this production. (Including the incorrect use of the apostrophe! Why cannot people get this correct? It is so easy to get right...As a GCSE English tutor and former GCSE English examiner, the misuse of apostrophes and the lack of use of the subjunctive are the two grammatical errors that really upset me. Ed,)
Whinge over! But try to support the only theatre group that Brookenby has - and in its own theatre, so you can leave the car behind and walk over and support the ecology at the same time.
Youth Club
I am led to believe that The Brookenby Youth Club no longer meets, although this may only be a temporary set back. West Lindsey District Council has offered assistance to make sure that this necessary resource continues for the youth of Brookenby.
'Mutual Terms
Brookenby's own well thought of group. this group of talented musicians rehearses in the Community Centre on Thursday nights and is beginning to pick up local gigs; one of which was in Binbrook recently. The group performed well and produced some good music keeping the attendant party-goers well entertained.
